Iranians have marked the 61st anniversary of the 1963 popular demonstration in the country known as the “15th of Khordad uprising”.

The popular revolt against the Pahlavi regime was a response to the arrest of Imam Khomeini after a speech criticizing the Shah.

The occasion is considered a time to reflect on the teachings of the Late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini.

On that June day, crowds took to the streets in protest against the arrest of the late founder of the Islamic Republic Ayatollah Khomeini by the Pahlavi regime.

In several cities, many people were killed in the violent crackdown by the regime forces.

Over a decade later, Imam Khomeini spearheaded Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution. The regime was overthrown.

The June 5 uprising is now a matter of national pride, remembered annually across the Islamic Republic.

Imam Khomeini had been arrested for his angry speech against the ruling Shah and the US.

A large number of people were killed by the police and the military during the violent crackdown on protesters in different cities.

Fifteen years later, Imam Khomeini spearheaded Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, which led to the overthrow of the US-backed Shah of Iran.

Iranians mark the event annually since the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

The occasion, which falls on June 5th this year, is a national holiday in Iran.
