The Dutch capital, Amsterdam, has mounted an exhibition of exquisite artworks from all over the Islamic world including Iran and Turkey. Passion for Perfection displays a selection of 500 objects, including works from one of the world's most renowned collections of Islamic art assembled by Professor Nasser D. Khalili. The exhibition which will run until April 17, 2011 at Amsterdam's De Nieuwe Kerk, displays a wide range of artworks including illuminated Qur'ans and manuscripts, paintings, gold, jewels, textiles, ceramics, glassware, lacquerware, metalwork and wood carvings. The objects highlight grandeur of Islamic art from all cultures and civilizations joined by Islam for more than 1,400 years, Artdaily reported. The central theme of Passion for Perfection is the beauty and exquisite workmanship of Islamic art which originates in highly diverse geographical and cultural worlds from China and India to Iran and Iraq, from Egypt and Tunisia to Turkey and Spain. Illuminated Qur'ans are showcased in the exhibition's Captivating Calligraphy section along with rare manuscripts dating from the 10th to the 19th centuries. The Shining Showpieces section presents glittering fabricated jewelry adorned with precious stones, as well as colorful enamels from India's Mughal rulers. Visitors can also see the finest Iranian and Indian miniatures in the event's Delicately Drawn section. One of the highlights of this section is Jami' al-Tawarikh, the first survey of Muslim history written by Rashid al-Din Hamadani in the beginning of the 14th century. The exhibition not only displays items made specifically for religious purposes, but also objects reflecting local culture and traditions. Along with calligraphic decoration and geometric patterns, arabesques and elegant scrollwork, there is also a strong emphasis on representations of humans and animals, especially in miniature paintings and decorative arts.
